When on the Paleo Diet planning your breakfast is quite straightforward.
Regardless of your diet breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day and this is certainly the case with a Paleo diet breakfast. The work literally means “break the fast” and we need to take in plenty of the essential nutrients which will enable our bodies and minds to function properly during the day.
Given the foods allowed on the Paleo diet breakfast, your first meal of the day will be made from some (or all) of the following:
- Eggs (an ideal breakfast food)
- Meat including bacon (not in large quantities)
- Vegetables – mainly salads
- Fresh fruit
These ingredients can be used to create lots of tasty dishes to get your day off to a good start. Here are a few tasty ideas:
Fruit and Egg Smoothie
This is a delicious, simple recipe which will definitely keep you active for many hours at a stretch. It contains lots of energy and nutrients to keep you going. It is easy and quick to prepare and great to drink. If you use a different fruit each day you won’t get bored with this one!
To prepare it all you need to do is put fresh fruit/berries into a blender with a little water and then add a raw beaten egg. It is best preferable to eat organic eggs and you can also vary the recipe by using different types of eggs such as duck or ostrich eggs. Obviously you cannot use sugar to sweeten the mixture but you can add honey instead. The mixture should then be blended and poured into a bowl or glass. Top it with some berries and you are ready to go. To change the texture you might like to add some crushed nuts but this is optional. A simple recipe which is guaranteed to give you a good start to the day.
Veggie Egg Pancakes
If you love pancakes and wondered how you would manage without them you do not need to worry. There is a great recipe for a Paleo friendly pancake.
Take two raw organic eggs and beat them, add a little cinnamon power and a pinch of salt. You can also add a spoonful of apple puree flavored with vanilla essence. Pour the mixture onto a hot pan and cook until golden brown. On your plate add salad and nut butter. This is a tasty and fairly quick way to start the day.
If breakfast is not the same without milk you might be concerned because dairy products are banned on the Paleo diet. However there is an acceptable substitute in coconut milk. It can be blended with honey and vanilla and drunk to provide a filling morning beverage (although not every day).
The simplest form of breakfast is eggs. These can be eaten in many ways (scrambled, omelets etc.) with meat, vegetables or fruit so you can easily eat a varied breakfast..
So you can see that a Paleo diet breakfast can be very easy and is in fact a good way to get started on the diet. You will soon develop a taste for it and you can slowly move towards a fully Paleo lifestyle.
